Germination Information: In my experience, direct-sowing is the best way to get red orach started in the garden. Seeds I planted (about 1/8 inch deep) on April 18, right where I wanted the plants to grow, began sprouting on April 28; your experience may vary. Self-sown seedlings tend to appear from October to April here in PA, and I had some reach nearly 8 feet tall this past summer. Sowing indoors in early to mid spring is another option, if you want to be able to set out the plants in specific places; I find that transplants tend to be on the shorter side, though.
