Description Being tempted to try a plant just by a photograph doesn’t always work out well, but it sure did for me in the case of this pepper. I acquired the seeds as ‘Aji Cachucha’ but it is apparently correctly known as ‘Aji Cachucha Purple Splotched’, because the ripening fruits go from light green to purple-shaded pale green, to orange, and then finally to solid red. The fruits are on the small side and somewhat squat, with interesting crinkles. They have very crispy flesh and are nice for snacking on right from the plants: though they look hot, they’re not! They’re a colorful addition to salads and salsas. I’ve also enjoyed them stuffed with tuna salad or other fillings. The nicely branched plants reach about 3 feet tall and can each produce many dozens of peppers through the growing season. Full sun. Annual in most climates. Collected in late August 2025.
