Germination Information: The lack of information about growing this species also makes it difficult to provide sowing guidelines. It does seem to benefit from a warm-cool-warm cycle. I sowed my original seeds (just barely covered) in a pot on January 9 and set it outdoors, hoping for the best, but nothing appeared that spring or summer. I left the pot outside through another winter, and wonder of wonders, seedlings appeared in May of that year. If you get these seeds in July to September, you could sow right away and leave them outdoors, and they should germinate in spring to early summer. If you’re starting in October or after that, I would suggest sowing indoors in warm conditions for about 2 months, then moving the pot outdoors if there is still another month or so of chilly temperatures. If the weather is already getting warm, then give the pot an artificial chilling period of 6 to 8 weeks before putting it outdoors. The seedlings are easily damaged, so I recommend direct-sowing, if possible, or else transplanting potting seedlings as a group rather than trying to separate them. Once you can get the vine growing, it is likely to self-sow in the same general area. Note that this information will not appear on the seed packet you receive. Please read the description as well before ordering.
