Germination Information: I started my original seeds by “winter sowing”: sowing in a plastic milk jug and leaving it outdoors for germination in early spring. This past year, seeds I winter-sowed on December 25 started germinating on February 26. (Your experience will vary, depending on your local conditions.) If you prefer to direct-sow, you could try that any time between late fall and early spring. Those I sowed in the garden on March 22 began sprouting on April 3; again, your experience will vary, depending on your weather. It’s also possible to start the seeds indoors in warm conditions. Seeds I sowed that way on April 20 started germinating on April 25; yet again, your experience will likely vary. However you sow, be aware that the seeds are very tiny; just press them into the surface of the growing medium and keep the area evenly moist until the seedlings begin to grow. The seedlings are tiny too, and tend to grow slowly for the first month or so. When I sow in a container, I pick them out in small groups for potting-up once they are big enough to handle, then grow them on for several weeks before planting out. It might be worth trying to sow them in cell packs or plug trays so you could skip the intermediate potting-up step. Note that this information will not appear on the seed packet you receive. Please read the description as well before ordering.
