Description Brazilian bachelor’s button (Centratherum punctatum, or C. intermedium), also known as Brazilian button flower, deserves more attention from gardeners who enjoy growing “something different.” It forms mounded, 12- to 18-inch-tall (sometimes to 2-foot) plants with fluffy, lavender-purple flowers from early or midsummer to frost. As a bonus feature, the medium green leaves smell like pineapple when you rub or brush against them. (You’ll sometimes see this species sold with the name ‘Pineapple Sangria’.) The plants are terrific for a long season of color in beds, borders, and containers, and they look great in masses too. The flowers attract butterflies and other pollinators. Full sun to light shade; can take dry soil. A tender perennial (Zone 9 and south) but usually grown as an annual, Brazilian bachelor’s button may self-sow, particularly in warm climates. Collected in September and October 2025. At least 15 seeds. Shipping to U.S. addresses only. Please read the germination information as well before ordering.
