Description What an exciting find this year! I generally don’t spend much time in the back corner of my upper meadow—a site with morning sun and afternoon shade, and rather wet soil—but I did invest some energy in removing the invasives last year, and I started mowing a path through there to keep a better eye on things. In late spring this year, I was astounded to find this beautiful and distinctive sedge blooming back there, mixed in with smooth rush (Juncus effusus). At 3 to 4 feet tall in bloom, the clump-forming plants must have been growing there for a while but maybe not getting enough light to flower until now. The delightful, danging seedheads make a great show in late spring to midsummer. This cool-season sedge is native to much of the eastern half of North America; these seeds are from my meadow in Bucks County, PA. Full sun to full shade; moist to wet soil. Perennial; Zones 3 to 8. Collected in June 2025. At least 20 seeds. PA ecotype. Shipping to U.S. addresses only. Please read the germination information as well before ordering.
