Description With its upright stems carrying long, slender, spiky leaves, palm sedge (Carex muskingumensis) has a distinctive look in the garden. In summer, the stems are tipped with clusters of green spikelets that mature to gold and then brown. The green summer foliage turns yellow in fall. Palm sedge grows in gradually expanding clumps that reach about 2 feet tall (maybe up to 3 feet in ideal conditions). Easy and adaptable, it prefers partial shade and moist to wet soil but can grow in anything from full sun to full shade. Enjoy it as a foliage feature in a rain garden, contrast it with hostas and other broad-leaved plants in a shade border, or use it in a moist to wet meadow planting. Just be aware that it may self-sow freely in a garden setting if not deadheaded. Palm sedge is native to many parts of central North America. Perennial; Zones 4 to 8. Collected in July 2025. At least 20 seeds. Unknown ecotype. Shipping to U.S. addresses only. Please read the germination information as well before ordering.
