Germination Information: I recommend these seeds only for gardeners who have experience with challenging seeds that require a chilling period. Sow about 1/4 inch deep in late fall to midwinter and set the pot outdoors so they can get a natural chilling period and germinate in spring. Or, you could try providing an artificial chilling period of about 2 months (haven’t tried that myself with this species). I have read that pouring boiling water over the seeds and letting them sit for about a day before sowing can encourage better germination. You could try that, if you like, but I had decent results even without it, using the winter-sowing approach: Seeds I started on December 2 began germinating on March 26, with more seedlings appearing over the next month or so. Your experience may vary. The seedlings and young plants tend to grow slowly, taking 2 to 3 years to start flowering, but they’re long-lived once established. Note that this information will not appear on the seed packet you receive. Please read the description as well before ordering.
