Salvia coccinea ‘Sparky’s Super Pink’ (Hummingbird Sage) [15 Seeds]

$20.98 $31.89
Description Hunting online for new seeds to try is one of my favorite pastimes, but it’s even more exciting when folks send me surprise seeds of special finds from their own gardens. The first year, I grow them out to see how how they perform here; if they do well, I’ll keep growing them until I feel sure they are unique and can get enough seeds to sell to other gardeners who appreciate growing something special. This beauty came to me from a customer several years ago (thanks again, N.C.!): She had started with a strain called ‘Summer Jewels Pink’, which is touted as a compact strain to about 18 inches tall, but her plants were consistently larger than that. The first year I grew it, my plants were more like 2 feet tall even in the extreme drought conditions here that season, and the next year, with more normal rainfall, they were easily over 3 feet tall: definitely not “compact.” I really like the more open, natural-looking habit of the plants and wanted to offer the seeds here; fortunately, my source gave her permission and suggested the name ‘Sparky’s Super Pink’—and here it is! The parent species Salvia coccinea is native to the southeastern United States, as well as parts of central America, and it can be perennial in Zones 8 or 9 to 10, or you can grow it as an annual anywhere. Hummingbird sage usually prefers full sun but can also perform well in light shade, particularly in hot-summer areas. It’s not unusual to find self-sown seedlings the following year. Collected in September and October 2025. At least 15 seeds. Very limited supply this year; 1 packet per customer. Shipping to U.S. addresses only. Please read the germination information as well before ordering.
