Germination Information: I recommend these seeds only for gardeners who have experience with seeds that may need a chilling period to germinate. The easiest approach is to surface-sow the seeds in a pot in late fall to early winter, setting them outdoors in a spot protected from mice so they can get a natural chilling period and then germinate when conditions are right in spring. If you sow much after December, give the seeds an artificial chilling period of about 2 months. It is possible that these seeds could germinate if you sow them in warm, moist, bright conditions. But if you try that and no seedlings appear within 2 months or so, then try giving them an artificial chilling period as described above. The last time I grew downy skullcap from seed, the seeds I sowed in a pot outdoors on January 1 started germinating on March 30, and those I sowed indoors (under lights, on a heat mat) on March 1 started germinating on April 12. (Your experience may vary.) Both sets of seedlings flowered in their first year. Note that this information will not be on the seed packet you receive. Please read the description as well before ordering.
